Take a trip back through time at Delaware Copper Mine
Over 150 years of mining history are featured at the Keweenaw Peninsula’s premier tourist attraction!

Operating from 1847 until 1887, this authentic, historic mine offers a walking tour that takes you 100 feet below ground to explore one of the earliest mines to operate during the country’s first major mining boom. You’ll see pure veins of copper exposed in the walls of the mine, along with other geological interests.

Located in the historic ghost town of Delaware, we are just 12 miles south of Copper Harbor and 38 miles north of Houghton on U.S. 41.

Tours available 7 days a week
Our tours are self-guided!

Mid-May to Mid-October 10 AM to 6 PM

The tour allows you to take your time exploring the tunnels and shafts of the mine. The mine is well-lit, with detailed signs throughout.

Follow the underground tour with a self-guided surface tour of mine buildings and artifacts.

All dates and time subject to change
Jackets and walking shoes are recommended.

Delaware Mine is a Heritage Site of the Keweenaw National Historical Park.

Google Maps shows the Delaware Copper Mine in a city named Mohawk, MI, which is why that is listed in the title of this page.

In the PDF version of this brochure it also states: "Located in the historic ghost town of Delaware, we are just 12 miles south of Copper Harbor and 38 miles north of Houghton on U.S. 41."

Wikipedia also has this to say: "Mohawk is a small community at 47°18′14″N 88°21′53″W on US 41/M-26 less than two miles east of Ahmeek. The Mohawk ZIP code is 49950 and serves a large portion of the northeastern tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula ."
