Welcome to Wakefield Township
When visiting Gogebic County, be sure to include on your itinerary a short walk on the best Mother Nature has to offer, the "Beautiful Presque Isle River Trail." This trail is located on the west side of the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park and near the entrance to the Presque Isle State Park. The entrance to the trial is on the South Boundary Road just off of North County Road 519.

In this two-mile walk, you will enjoy beautiful scenery made up of stands of virgin hemlocks, and three waterfalls - Nawadahn, Manido and Manabezho - which will take your breath away. It is a walk you will not want to take without bringing your camera, so you can relive the beauty once you are at home.

In the spring and summer you will also enjoy the fresh green foliage coming to life from a long winter of dormancy, and in the fall you will see the spectacular combination of giant hemlocks and the beautiful color change of the maple, poplar and oak trees. This could very well be the best short trail Michigan has to offer!

It its final mile before emptying into Lake Superior, the Presque Isle descends more than 100 feet, and in doing so, has carved a rugged and steep-sided gorge.

Be sure to visit Wakefield Township and the Presque Isle River Trail.
